Sculpture

tears of statues
stream inwardly,
rivulets of bronze
or marble,
wood,
granite,
slowly returning
to the grain
of their respective
matter,
broken
into the very atoms
of grief,
or the tiny
electrons of
joy,
never betrayed
by their
rigid composure,
and hinted only
by empty eyes,
of which,
on occasion,
blood’s been
seen
to flow.

Ooooh, When statues cry...Vesper, I love the idea here, it is haunting. I have felt this before in myself, inwardly crying, rigid outwardly. This is very thought provoking.

"on occasion,

Invisible tears are like acid within.

Oh, Vesper - very mysterious and wonderful. Of course, those last lines are chilling - and exactly the right flourish to end this extraordinary piece!

Also applauding -
"...never betrayed
by their
rigid composure,
and hinted only
by empty eyes..."

A surreal journey of essence trapped.

What Jason said is so true, they are.

Vesper, my reaction on finishing this (not very articulate, but honesty it was...) "Whoa!" Then, reading again, thinking how smart this is.

"slowly returning
to the grain
of their respective matter" --

"the very atoms of grief" --

"and hinted only
by empty eyes,
of which,
on occasion,
blood's been
seen
to flow" ---

Whoa! How very, very good!

I hope that you've been well since I last stopped by, and I'm very happy that you are continuing to weave your your unique brand of powerful, seductive, yet haunting poetry.

Never Cry.
Better to
leak blood from the eyes
than to
let them know you care.

I like this piece very much Vesper.

Catherine, I am very grateful for your thoughts and your words of appreciation. Thank you! Beyond the feelings kept inside an immovable appearance, I also thought of the immense mysteries of matter, and life, and time, even divinity…

Aniket, thank you! Yes, we do try hard… I think what matters is not to be hardened so that we don’t need to try anymore…

Jason, they are… Sometimes the tap is too rusted… Thank you for reading!

Oh, Kaye, I’m so glad you saw the mystery… I so appreciate your comments! You’re very, very kind. Thank you.

Bernard, your words trapped the essence of this… Thank you!

Karen, wow! “Not very articulate” often means a lot more than elaborate phrases… I cannot say how thankful I am for your comments.

Rick, what a wonderful, wonderful surprise! I miss you!!!
Thank you for your kind praise – it goes straight to my heart. I haven’t been too inspired lately… I’m waiting for your dragons to return. :-)

Ah, Mark, and I like yours very much, TWM… I’m very grateful for your comments!

I loved that poem...you created so many images. I love statues and scupltures; finding out the history behind them. I take photos of them everywhere I go.

I love the contrast of hardness with deep vulnerability. We all put on our granite faces from time to time. And when we let go, it can truly transcend tears.

I love the concept, the execution, and the darkness here. Just everything about it. Wonderful! :)
