Say You Were I

say I was you and you were I,
say your pretty face,
your fancy thoughts
were squeezed,
were squished
inside this convoluted room
that you could never leave,
and you would taste the world
with tiny, tiny eyes--
from your clumsy, sluggish path
would you look up in
fear that I,
like this careless,
unavailing god,
would
step on you?
whose universe would be
more grand?
or would they be entirely
the same,
just different
vantage points?
which one of us would have
more right to live?
to thrive?
how would you answer that
if the flamboyant girl were I
and you were
(just)
an enigmatic snail
dreaming
on a leaf?

The unanswerable question first presented to man in Buddhist philosophy. If all life is sacred who has the right to shorten it from it's natural path...the only thing it forgot to take into account is that some life is meant for food for the living and 'cept it die there be no life for anything.

First do no harm then do what you must to live in harmony.

Home run (or hat trick if you like)!

I love this so much. What a great thought/idea. I'm rubbish at poetry, but know enough about it to know it is meant to make us feel. And this makes me feel.

Very smooth rhythm to this, thought provoking and I would echo Walking Man's sentiment.

Paul, thanks, and your comment makes me happy. :-)

Thank you, Bernard, it just "flowed" through my head... :-)

Charles, thanks! If it's just for thought then it's good... :-)

Thank you, Geraldine! Unfortunately, no muffins yet. :-( But the Sea Glass Hearts look wonderful. Thank you for sharing the review with us. xoxoxo
