Almost

sometimes the “real” reality
seems almost within grasp
like a world of wonders
– or perhaps of horrors –
glimpsed just below the thin
layer of ice on a lake
so close
so close

makes you wonder

if only you could lie down
with your bare heart
and melt this ice
of the paradigm
would you have your
aha moment?
would you “know” at last?

(would you achieve more than
catching a cold?)

Hello Vesper. I'm no expert on poetry, but I know what I like. Very evocative. Very philosophical. I wonder what the 'real' reality is and will we ever grasp it?

Even if one melts the ice, the thaw is temporary

Hi Denise,
Thank you for such nice words! It sometimes feels to me like something on the tip of my tongues... but it never comes... :-)

You're right, Charles. :-)

This is such a unique take on that sense that something profound lurks...but if you turn too quickly or look too closely it vaporizes. It is like looking through the ice...and being tempted to push through it. I loved this piece.

That is so great about the novel! Thank you so much for your support! I can't wait to hear what you think of it. :) Yeah, the delivery times are strange...and will only get worse as the holiday season swings into high gear.

Hey there, Vesper :)

Long time, no chat. I'm about to remove my Blogger blog (I transferred everything to my site this year)and wanted to make sure to reach out so that I didn't lose contact with anyone. You're now in my Feedly app so I can read your posts regularly. I hope you'll stop by from time to time. Best wishes!
Laura :)

An entertaining match for the picture. It would be elation for a split second, followed by cold darkness.

There is a playful tone in your poem but at the same time it is underlined by this rather deep line of thought as to what is real and what isn't. I love, love, the last line. It's almost like a wink at the reader. Thanks.

Greetings from London.

Kim, thank you! Yes, I often feel like that... :-)
And amazon.ca is always the poor relative... :-)

Probably, Bernard... :-)

Cuban in London, thank you! Your reading and sharing of your thoughts here is truly very much appreciated. :-)

_This world of wonders... in each day and night; so many of us do not see or hear.

lake ice groans
in this deepest freeze
northern lights

Some, keep looking and hearing as do you, Vesper, and yours a fine verse! _m

Thank you, Magyar! There is something there in the "deepest freeze" that is incredibly appealing to me. And I love your haiku!
