Iceland - Days 9 & 10

No internet last night.... but yesterday was a perfect day around the Snaefellnes Peninsula, and up the mountain too. Today, it was lava fields and lava tubes.... and then, finally, Reykjavik.

It's been an otherworldly trip and sadness is nibbling at my heart because it'll soon be over... But, hey, I have a full day tomorrow in Reykjavik and since the days are so long here in summer, I'll make the most out of it.

Here are some highlights from yesterday and today.

Up the Snaefellsjökull of Center of the Earth fame...

Hraunfossar, a series of waterfalls made up of rivulets streaming from the Hallmundarhraun lava field over a distance of about 900 metres. The lava field was formed in an eruption from long ago, from one of the volcanoes under the Langjökull glacier...

Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavik...

Nice Irish pub in Reykjavik... I wish I could say I was inside, but I couldn't have left my daughter's on the sidewalk...

You certainly are a temptress! I have never been off continent by foot but some of these pictures you have posted vesper now make me question my choices when my world was simpler an I still could shoulder my Jansport.

It was probably for the best that your daughter not be inside a pub where any drinking Irish gather (or pretend Irish)as a Casey and a Stewart on my mothers side--I am well known from days gone by...

That's one of the neater buildings I've seen

Mark, you're right, they seemed kinda drunk :-) :-) :-) And it's not really my style to go in there either, not just for the sake of my daughters... (I just noticed that when I wanted to write the plural of daughter, Google changed it to daughter's)

Charles, it's made to resemble the basalt columns that you encounter a lot here in Iceland. It's very austere, inside and outside, but there's a very peaceful feeling coming out of that, the way I see the clean, cold North...
