Last night, a tiny mosquito, fresh and soft, little more than a speck of soot, rested his confusion on the white wall of my bathroom.
How omnipotent I felt, against this fragile sparkle of life…
I caught him in a glass jar and sent him away, on the night wind, to tell Spring how happy I was she’s sent her heralds.
This afternoon, in the warm rain, I was again a gentle god, tiptoeing on the stone pavement, to spare the lives of young earthworms…

you are a better buddhist than i.
earthworms i rescue. mosquitos i smash.
With great power comes greater responsibility. Glad you are using yours for good.
Though killing can be fun at times. :D
The force is strong with you young one. :-)
moonie expressed precisely my own sentiments on the situation, v... i have an allergic reaction to most bites and stings, so try to nip any potential attack in the bud :)
How wonderful these lines are!!!
I totally agree with you. Even I can't stand the sight of 'violence' even if that means killing an ant..After all that is 'life'...living in togetherness:)Even the smallest being has the right to share this world with us.
I'm afraid when the mosquitoes hunt me I hunt back. But I do save earthworms.
We must be resonating with nature. Today I righted a junebug trapped on his back :)
...and the harsher gods of bats and birds, who must eat also, thank you for your kindness.
Beautiful.
Love this line the most:
"I caught him in a glass jar and sent him away, on the night wind, to tell Spring how happy I was she’s sent her heralds."

Your heart and spirit are manifest in such small kindnesses that mean everything to the recipients.
Elegant manifestations of feeling and emotion, as always.
I find I envy your skill in every line. Brilliant.
Earthworms... yeah, I'm going around - bloodsuckers in any season get smashed to still their incessant irritating whine before they feast on yet another benevolent God. :)
There are so many signs of spring we don't usually think much about. Thanks for this reminder. It's all good (unless they suck blood out of us)!!! :<(
Hugs and Happy Weekend, G
LOL Vesper, I do this too. Especially because I know how important the little guys are to the garden. I love the photo. :-)
Moonrat, I admit I’m not familiar with the precepts of Buddhism… It just comes to me naturally. :-) Obviously, I will not let them bite me , but at the same time I will avoid harming them as much as possible. :-)
Aniket, Spider-man and Star Wars… I like that! :-)
Sorry about your allergic reaction, LW… :-)
Deepazartz, thank you so much! Even the smallest being has the right to share this world with us. That’s how I feel and that’s what I teach to my daughters. I’m glad you think the same.
Charles, you do it to protect yourself, not just for fun… :-)
L.A., I save ants, flies, spiders, junebugs from my swimming pool all the time… :-) I’m sure we resonate with nature…
Mark, I’m sure they do… but it’s for a better cause… :-)
Thank you kindly, Paul. :-)
Karen, thank you for seeing this. :-)
Ah, Will, you are so kind and I am so pleased… Thank you! :-)
Bernard, I wonder what produces the “whine”… They could be stealthier and therefore more successful… :-)
I’m amazed to discover these signs everyday, Geraldine. I hope you had a great weekend. xoxoxo
I had no doubt you too did that, Cat! :-)
your sweet kindness toward helpless creatures does not surprise me... I feel exactly the same way...thanks for being you.
Grab that worm and lets go fishin
Hi!
Though I tend to stay calm in most situations, sight of a mosquito is a definite exception. Once, I'd deliberately held myself from killing a mosquito as a form of mental experiment, and I was suprised to realize I was palpitating with anger! I killed it like always.
I wouldn't mind if a mosquito would just bite, but the itch that follows is just irritating.
Well written! I'll think of this post each time I kill a mosquito! ;)
Take care.
