I Wish

I wish they were true
these things
I’ve been telling you
to soften your worries

that there are only the trees
whipping the roof
with their fleshless arms

only the wind’s fingers
strumming old shutters
to forlorn melodies

only aged floorboards
-nothing else, what else-
moaning slowly
under the bitter
October air

(not the house
not this house
coming to life)

(you are such a nice boy
-a luminous soul-
so trusting)

I wish you hadn’t lost
your way
in these woods
I wish you hadn’t seen
in my eyes
the shelter you were seeking
instead of
the nightmares

(and the wine
the sweet wine of abandon-
I wish you hadn’t been that thirsty)

if only I could tell you
to run away
as I am going out
-I left the door unlocked this time-
and you’re falling asleep
and the house gets ready
to feast

geez.....well this is the start of a wonderful halloween tale....beware the house...shivers...how intriguing it keeps only one, letting the previous go...opens the door for some really twisted feelings...

All the nightmarish elements of an October night in the lost woods.

Whoa! Cool. Perfect in time for Halloween!

Chilling poem, evocative and horrific. In my mind, I picture the boy is Victor Standish -- so the house is the one to start worrying. :-)

Brian, thank you!!! In my mind, the girl was some sort of "provider" for the house, bringing in strangers who have lost their way in the woods... Then she leaves for the time it takes the house to "eat"... :-)

Bernard, thank you kindly! Sometimes it's not a good thing to be lost in the woods... :-)

Charles, thank you! I'm very glad you liked it! :-)

Roland, thank you so much! I appreciate this a lot. Yes, probably not a big deal for Victor... plus the girl gave him an extra chance by leaving the door unlocked... :-)

WRITERS BEWARE!

I have been notified recently that plagiarist David Boyer is back!

He's set up new interests and submitting other peoples' work to publications under various false names.

If you find Boyer operating under any of his new aliases, or have reasons to suspect so, please forward the details to us, at Horrified Press, or to The Horror Zine.

This sort of behaviour has to be stopped!

Thanks.

Thank you, LW! Very much appreciated! :-)

I tried to find new info about Boyer's activities, but only the previous stuff came up. I remember when he stole Rick's story... That's just so awful! Thank you for making me aware.

ugh, this _is_ creepy.
the irrevocability.
(blogger's grammar function does not know this word, but your poem does.)
very well done.

btw, i wanted to share this with you, it's a free online course.
it starts on 25 October. I have registered, and would love to work with you, if you are quick enough to enroll and/or have time for the course in the first place.

oh, and my email address has changed (as of February this year), but i don't want to share it openly.

SzélsőFa, thank you!!!
irrevocability... the noun does exist. :-) Wow, I'm so glad you liked this!

I checked the online course. It looks so interesting! So many aspects that are worth exploring. (Reminds me of the story you shared with me...) But I really wouldn't have time for the assignments and other tasks. I don't know if it's all right to only watch the presentations. Also, I'm not on FB and I'm not on Twitter.
I'm really very tempted ...and I'm really disappointed that I can never do these things that I love.
I still have a few hours to think about it, don't I?
I'm very honoured that you thought of me.
Send me your new e-mail, if you would like. I would like to have it.
xoxoxo

The FAQ says that you do not need a facebook/twitter account.
I'm sure we'll find those extra hours. Like two hours a week or so should be enough.

Lyrical, tender and spooky. A perfect combination, Vesper. Loved it!

Talon, thank you so much for your lovely thoughts. I appreciate them more than I can say. :-)
