One Day

one day
the masks simply won’t
hold together anymore
the mask of happiness
the mask of enthusiasm
the mask of goodness
eroded
by tears
by sweat
by the uncontrollable
laughter
the mask of indifference
the mask of compassion
the mask of sadness
will peel off
like old paint

one day
it will be just my
unrecognizable
face

__Sometimes it's best to wear the mask; they that SAY, that are SO OFTEN GIVEN the guilt.

A truthful verse, Vesper. _m

Lovely, evocative poem -- truly when life removes a mask from someone we thought we knew, we only find yet another one! I've been fighting a spring flu and way behind saying HI to my friends! Sorry!

I like the word picture in the poem, but human beings are onions. We have layers to help us survive. When the last one gets peeled, I'm hoping to be at room temperature. :)

Margie, thank you and... thank you! I'm so thrilled and so grateful! I'm looking forward to your comments when you finish it. Have fun at Disneyland! :-)

So true, Roland. Thank you! Spring flu, that's so unpleasant... I hope you've fully recovered!

Bernard, you're totally right! Me too! :-)

Cuban, no, thank you! :-)

I'm with the onion theory, too ;)

Other than that that day is what some of us are waiting for, some of us never experience and yet another fraction of us already passed through it with flying colors.

I am a bit late, but this is very beautiful, dark, harsh reality that makes us all: souls wearing masks. Awesome material...
